Saturday, 11 February 2017 3:30 PM Export event

As part of Kickin' Country 2017

After taking home the ARIA for Country Album of the Year in November 2016, Sara Storer was voted Female Artist of the Year at the Country Music Awards of Australia, held in Tamworth on Saturday 28th January.

Sara also took out the award for Best Bush Ballad for her song, ‘Amazing Night’, which she performed to a capacity audience at the Tamworth Regional Conference and Convention Centre.

The two gongs take Sara’s career tally to 21.

Sara is recognised as one of Australia’s finest singer-songwriters whose crisp observations of the Australian landscape and its people provide the solid foundation stone for her music.

Sara Storer was born to sing about real people, honest emotions, and the land she loves and the attention that these latest accolades will bring to her latest work will no doubt further solidify her position as one of our finest musical poets.

What a week it's been for Sara Storer.

Sara Wins the ARIA and is nominated for
5 Golden Guitar awards.

Last week the critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter took out the converted ARIA Award for Country Album of the Year for her lastest offering, Silos, and yesterday was nominated for 5 gongs in the Country Music Awards of Australia (The Golden Guitar Awards) including Female Artist and Album of the Year.

Sara is one of Australia’s most-loved singer-songwriters. She has seen all the beauty, joy and heartbreak this land can bring and so it is that her crisp observations of the Australian landscape and its people provide the solid foundation stone for her music.

Without doubt one of the finer moments from the album is the opening track, My Diamond, a song written in collaboration with her five siblings and performed as a duet with her older brother, Greg.

Sara herself explains; “My Diamond represents my songwriting in so many ways.  It has contributions from all my siblings as is about our dad. When it’s real the song already has all the colours, the emotions, the story line. Dad taught us to love each other for who we are and to look out for each other.”

Fittingly, My Diamond is nominated for the Best Vocal Collaboration Golden Guitar.

Another of the songs that took centre stage at the nominations event was Purple Cockies, a song inspired by Sara’s friend and sometime musical collaborator, John Williamson.

Sara Storer was born to sing about real people, honest emotions, and the land she loves and the attention that these latest accolades will bring to her latest work will no doubt further solidify her position as one of our finest musical poets.

Although multi-award winning songstress, Sara Storer, has been relatively quiet in terms of her public profile over the past 3 years, she has not been idle. In 2014 she took out 3 major Golden Guitar awards at the Country Music Awards of Australia in Tamworth and early in 2015, gave birth to her 4th boy. Yes , 4 boys! During this time Sara and her family also relocated from Darwin to the NSW border city of Albury so they could be closer to family.

Having won a Golden Guitar in 2014 for a duet she recorded with long-time friend and sometime musical collaborator, John Williamson, Sara released a song she wrote about John called Canoe which went on to take out the coveted award for Video Clip of the Year in 2015 bringing her total Golden Guitar tally to an impressive 18!

A genuine admiration of Sara’s work prompted John to comment, “Sara has a unique way of seeing and expressing her observations of love and life in the bush. So she is a songwriter that will be remembered beyond her lifetime.”
In March this year, Sara released her 6th and highly acclaimed studio album, ‘Silo’s and is now embarking on a tour that will take her around the country to perform for her legion of loyal fans.

With an absence of 4 years since she last visited many venues in regional Australia, there is sure to be a high level of anticipation for one of our most loved and enduring singer songwriters.

As respected journalist and book author Noel Mengel observes, “It’s Sara’s crisp observations of the Australian landscape and its people that provide the solid foundation stone for her music. She has seen all the beauty, joy and heartbreak this land can bring.”
